"Another wonderful advantage of this love affair with perfume is you don't have to be faithful to just one, even if you adore each other to death. In perfume, you can cheat very discreetly over and over again, by taking up with another lover, or two, three, four, ten -- a whole string of beloveds if you like!" - John Oakes

Britney Spears Curious
Mon, 27 Mar 06
Introduced in 2004, Curious is designed on the concept of temptation, thrill, and satisfaction. The temptation is represented in the top notes of magnolia, pear, and lotus, followed by the tuberose, jasmine, and cyclamen "thrill" of the heart notes. The base notes of vanilla, musk, and sandalwood bring the experience to a satisfying conclusion. Fabulous!

First things first. The bottle is fantastic. I have a mini, and it's just absolutely adorable, with little charms hanging from the neck, not unlike the blue silk tassle that used to be on Guerlain's Shalimar all those years ago (except, of course, that the charms on Curious are plastic beads rather than silk).

As for the perfume, it's not as bad as I feared it would be. Well, that's stating it broadly. It's actually very nice, and I'm surprised, because I was really expecting to hate this.

I mean, I was really not expecting to like it. I absolutely detest her latest perfume, Fantasy (I don't think I'll do a review of it because I probably can't say anything nice, but in a nutshell, it's very, very sweet and if you want to smell like a cupcake in a lolly shop, that's the perfume for you).

However, I tried a bit of Curious on one of my children when we were out shopping (don't worry, they're little girls and they enjoy that sort of thing), and I thought it was fairly nice, so I ordered myself a little mini bottle of it.

It's a somewhat sweet floral perfume, with a bright, interesting opening. The overall mood is sweet, with the magnolia and pear notes, but it's not terribly sweet (not like a cupcake in a lolly shop). It's a nice, creamy, soft, floral sort of sweet, very pretty. The middle notes are nicely floral, and continue with a sweet mood, and then it winds down to the base, which, of course, is vanilla-drenched musk softened with sandalwood, so it's also pleasantly sweet and warm.

This is a nice perfume, soft and dreamy, very feminine, not terribly sweet (anyone who's read many of my reviews knows how I feel about fragrances that are too sweet!), creamy and maybe a bit girlish, and has a charming gentility about it. It would be appropriate for a young woman, even as a first fragrance, because it's suitably delicate and not too strong or complicated or overbearing (and what young woman could resist that fabulous bottle?).

I think I'll probably wear this again, although I can't say I'd necessarily want to buy it in a larger bottle. Then again, the perfume is nice and the bottle is just so cool, so.... hmmm....
