Boudoir was created by Vivienne Westwood in 1998, and it is a blend of a classic oriental and floral (a "floriental" as they're known). Boudoir is an intimate, luxurious and sensual combination of viburnum and marigold, rose and orange blossom, cinnamon, sandalwood and vanilla. Powerfully feminine!
I have to admit, I didn't like this much at first, but it's grown on me over the course of several wearings. As I've stated, I'm not a huge fan of orientals, although there are a number of floral orientals I like and wear. This one is more oriental than floral in my personal estimation.
The notes in this are unsuaul. Marigold? What an odd fragrance note, but it works. I'm not especially impressed with the initial opening notes (just a personal thing), but once it settles in and starts to develop, the fragrance is pleasantly warm and a bit spicy, without being overtly so. There's an unusual sort of sweetness about this fragrance, difficult to describe. I wouldn't by any means call it "sweet", though. Perhaps it's more like the way spiced wine is "sweet", i.e., it's not exactly sweet, but it is spicy and warm (I presume this comes from the vanilla and cinnamon, but that's only a guess). The sandalwood in this is subtle, and doesn't show up (on me, anyway) until the very late stages of the fragrance development.
I will admit that this took a while for me to get to where I liked it. It's fairly unlike the fragrances I usually wear, but lately I've been very deliberately trying to expand my appreciation of perfumes, and so I've been wearing a lot more oriental type fragrances. This bottle came as a mini (of course!) in a multi-pack, and it's not something I would have gone to normally, but it's actually pretty nice. It's also quite aptly named. It does have an aura of intimacy about it.
I recently heard that this has been discontinued, which I thought was a shame, but then, I heard that it has NOT been discontinued. Apparently, Libertine (also by Vivienne Westwood) has, in fact, been discontinued. So if you, like I, hear that it's discontinued, nope. It's not. Boudoir appears to be very much alive and should be readily available.
